On at 10, off at 3, water 47 to start, 49 when we left. Hard day, wind was a killer. Could never take my coat off. Water was cooling that wind down and you could feel the cold. Fishing sucked. They were trying to jump in the boat. But they were to small to jump high enough to get in. We must have caught over 150 fish to keep 8 crappies and 12 gills. It was crazy. One spot, sunfish, one after another. Move, gills, same way, then bass, all tiny. How tiny you ask ? May I die if I lie. One was 3 inches. How could a fish that was born last year, be that small. Along with a dozen, 4 and 5 inchers. It takes real skill, like mine to catch them that size. A little YADA YADA. Thanks Jimmy. I have talked to him on the phone in years past. He wanted to fish Crappies on Geneva. I told him, all he had to do was get to here. Would not cost him a dime, I would take him out. If I remember right, he is a retired cop. Had a nice time. Stopped at MUSKY MIKE'S in OKAUCHEE to drop off a reel for repair. Nice guy, starts giving me all kinds of great information. I am not even a customer of his. Nice time was had by both of us. A nice little shop. Best of luck to all. [email protected].
Chitowncrappieman...... HERO posted his email [email protected] you may better get an answer from him there.
I concur about upper 40's or even very low 50's water Temps. You have to find the warmest water on the shallow lakes. It's not going to be main lake areas on the larger lakes, that's for sure. They are closer to 40 degrees. As I always say, shallow black bottom bays on the north side of smaller lakes is where to start fishing after ice out.
On at 2:30, off at 4, water 46. How to be gentle ? The meat showed up 1:30 minutes late. Not properly clothed. Went to a spot and first cast, nice crappie. In the next 30 minutes, we caught about 30 crappies. But, at that point he was froze. He wanted to get out of that wind. We worked a few quiet spots. Picked up a few gills. Went back out in the wind. But the fish were not happy either. They were headed to Florida for spring break. Caught a few and called it a day. We had about 15 that we kept, never really counted them. The bite was EXTREMELY light. Best of luck to all.
Out yesterday. On at10:30, off at 3, water 47. Killed them, they were jumping in the boat. Fresh meat in the boat today.Started on gills. He caught 2 for every one I caught. Kept turning the boat and moving so he would not get so many, it did not work. He had his two Zepco reels getting so hot he had to put cold water on them. I had 6 bass he had 8 and bigger ones then mine. I had 50 gills he had a hundred. The only glad I had was when we switched to crappies. We were about even, but I had the big one at 12 1/2. I did catch 25 in about 30 minutes. There was a guy all alone in his boat watching me with his tongue hanging out. As we were leaving, he was moving to our spot. Hope he did well. But the spot is only one of the three things you need. The other 2 are tackle and technique. Best of luck to all. [email protected]
Man, wish I could help, Kingcrappie, but it's early March, and 95% of fish are still out deep. I was on a lake where nothing was happening from public land. A friend of mine tried and got nothing. There's a few fish in man made shallow channels, and swampy bays that can't really be accessed from shore. It will be awhile before fish move into accessible hard bottom shore areas
