Menominee River

We've caught many sturgeon over the years on the Menominee up near the dam.  Use heavy tackle as some of these fish can exceed 60" and 100lbs.  My preferred rig is a 7' medium-heavy rod rigged with 65lb braided line and a 12'-18" leader of 80lb mono with a 6/0 or 7/0 circle hook. I prefer a Carolina-style catfish rig with a 3oz or 4oz sinker depending on the current (I like coin sinkers on a sinker slide as they seem to hang-up less) or a three-way river rig. Be sure to use a heavy swivel (100lb or heavier) and a bead between the sinker/slide and swivel on the Carolina rig.  Three or four nightcrawlers on that circle hook does the trick. We've tried cut suckers and other minnows, but the crawlers always seem to work best. Good luck and be safe on the water.

just fyi, sturgeon is catch and release only from the grand rapids dam down to green bay (so in marinette). If you want to harvest, you must be above the grand rapids dam.

Launch at Boom landing next to Marinette Marine and go upstream to the Hatti street dam.

Also, by using night crawlers if you don't get a sturgeon you'll get your limit of sheepshead, lol 

By dam, do you mean the Hattie St dam, or further up river?

I haven't fished for them in years but I would head up near the dam. Use a basic river rig with a glob of night crawlers. Caution, water is pretty low right now (watch for rocks) but that could change by the time you go 

Hi, going to be going on my first sturgeon hook amd line trip later this month. Not lookimg for someones honey hole, but if anyome could point us in the general direction of spots or launches to head out from that would be very helpful. There appears to be a lot of river that's fishable, but also dont want to waste time in am area nobody would ever try.

I have been fishing this area of the river most of the summer but haven't had much success since mid May.
We have caught a lot of drum and a few walleye. We have mostly fished early mornings though.
Maybe we need to try an evening/ night trip.

My wife and I went last night, first time here in a few weeks, a bit windy and only one other trailer in the lot. Just got out there and a warden stopped by. Nice guy, asked how it was going and told us the walleyes have been good, never checked our license or anything else.
He was right, we fished 7 to 11 casting deep crank baits and went home with a bunch of nice eyes.
