Hard to believe the season is roughly only a month out - i've actually been noticing Tom's breaking away from the flocks in my area. No strutting or gobbling thus far that I have seen. Any one else?

Dad and I shot a double late yesterday morning in Zone 1. I shot mine at 34 yards and he shot his at 38 yards about two seconds after. Mine was 25# with 10" beard and both spurs were just over 1 1/2". His bird was 21# with 11" beard and 1 1/4 and 1 3/8" spurs. I've never seen two birds of this caliber running together in May. They also had 5 jakes with them. Probably the coolest turkey hunt I've ever been on!

Tim_T I hunt mostly open fields and unless they come out on the edge where I'm set up they usally come from a long ways. I get a big kick watching them and they do really shine if the sun is out.

Something must be in the air. Was going to do some running and gunning this morning, never heard any gobbling this morning as of yet. Opted to take a seat in the turkey tent and wait it out in a well known area.

Hunted Iowa County this A.M. Very light gobbling this morning with no toms close on the roost. Ended up seeing 9 jakes and a bearded hen. 3 of the jakes and the hen came right into my set. Looking for my second tom of the season. Will be back at it Sunday morning.

Got this guy at 7:45 today. Came in across field. He was at 220 yards when I 1st saw him. His feathers looked metallic green in the sun when he strutted. He put on a nice show. 23 lbs, 10" beard, 7/8" spurs.

Late report from this weekend. Most fun I've had in the woods! Brought my 9 year old nephew with. Hes never hunted and he did outstanding. We hunted 11 hours on Saturday didnt see much until we decided to take the long way out to the blind after lunch and had a Tom, Jake and hen within 60 yds and called with them for 1.5 hours till they took off. Then Sunday morning got this 21 lb tom, 10 inch beard, 1" spurs at 9 10. I think I got the little guy hooked. Next time, he pulls the trigger!

Lots of gobbling on the roost yesterday morning. Had two toms follow a group of hens into my set shortly after fly down. Had this guy on the ground by 6:00 A.M. Bird was harvested in Dane County.

I got off to a late start really...and I was in the blind by 540am...fly down the last couple of days I would say was about 550...something like that...Its kinda hard to judge because the last few days the birds haven't really gobbled on the roost at all in the area I was hunting... I think i maybe sat twenty minutes this morning...I was suprised at how quickly the birds got to.me because I was at least 175 yards from the roosting area.....hope that helps

Nice, Wadu.. congrats! Curious what time you got out there? I'm heading in the morning and wondering what time flydown was.. if they were in the woods when you got set up? or was it a late start? lol

Got this nice Tom this morning..was setup on a cut corn field and had a single hen decoy out...just got setup and hadn't even started calling yet when I looked up in the woods and saw a whole group of birds coming put of the woods to my decoy....there were 9 toms...I picked one out and took a 10 yard shot and it was all over...this is my 6th bird out of the last 7 that had bigger than one inch spurs....24lbs 1.25 inch spurs and an 11 inch beard

Easter was almost as late as it can be this year. 25th is the latest.

I feel your pain Lakeshiner.. Easter morning the birds were lit up like crazy. I had 8 toms within 150 yards i'm guessing. A group of 4 toms flew down and were circling the brush to come out in a spot of the field they have been recently.. had to leave for church - 15 minutes later I got a remote trail cam pic of 3 toms 15 yards from my set up :(((((
