Silver Dollar Area Ontario

Just interested to see if anyone fishes this area of Ontario. My group will be making it's 12th trip to the area later this summer. We stay at Moose Creek Camp about 8 miles north of Silver Dollar. We fish a number of different lakes in this area. Some of our favorites are Wintering, Sowden, Sturgeon, Young and Watcomb. I would enjoy comparing ideas and stories with fisherman who have spent time in this area. JEP

Guidedfishing,

I did not go through the causeway. I boated up to it, but did not go through it..As far as the road to the boat landing, a good part of the road has been widened and gravel has been added. Logger's perhaps? The last mile from the corner/cutoff to the lake is good. By no means a freeway, as there are still some rough spots along the way.

I would have no issue driving my pick-up to LOB with my boat and have seen it much worse. The landing on prospect is good, with a washout near the water, but nothing you cannot get around.

Good luck if you make it there!

Jimmy Mac,  did you go through at the causeway on LOB?  How is that last mile in and the corner before you get the boat landing.  Some years the ruts are bad.  Any issue with parking your truck once at the landing on Prospect?

Dodger,

I was up in the area for opener and fished different lakes. The water levels were lower that what I am used to, but it did not impact me or my group at all. For context, I've seen the water levels much lower in other years. We fished Lake of Bays a couple days, and the channel between Prospect and Lake of Bays was deep enough to motor through. The warmest surface water temp I saw was 53 degrees.

I am leaving for the Silver Dollar area this Thursday (6/6/24), and will likely be fishing Lake of Bays again. I can update you with water temps and water levels when I return to the states next week. As an FYI, the area has been getting some rain, where I am optimistic the water levels may have remained unchanged.

Will be up staying at Silver Dollar Resort in a week. If anyone could post water temps and water levels in the area that would be great. Can't wait for another awesome trip with my son and the gang! Our group is up to 9 this time around.

rnel,

I know what you mean about the wind! Sunday the 19th was the hardest wind I've experienced up there. We fished the lakes near the Silver Dollar, and got pounded. Fortunately, we did okay, and boated some nice walleyes.

The wind was predominantly coming from the southwest on that Sunday. I could not have imagined being on Sturgeon unless I was on a boat the size of a cruise ship.

We had two days of no fishing, to windy. Probably the windest day i seen up there, no chance for trolling motor to hold. Even in a smaller bay. Fishing overall not the greatest, biggest Northern 41 inches cabin next door had a 45. A few 25 inche walleyes and tons of smallmouth. Weather had big say where we could go, so that is way fishing was down.

Yeah, I love to fish but the four letter word snow is one of the main reasons I no longer do the Ontario opener.  Had some great fishing but also can remember one to many times having to shovel snow out of the boat, or subfreezing temps which kind of takes the fun out of it.   I have found in addition to June trips that my August and early September trips are typically very comfortable weather wise compared to the opener and Memorial Day type trips.   But hey any day fishing is a good day!

Fished Cobb bay for many years as well as the south end, but now I stay north of the Sturgeon narrows, Covney Island, East arm and all up the Northeast arm.  Lots of lake for sure.  enjoy.  I have a couple of trips to different lakes to get under my belt before I head up to Sturgeon in August this year.

Water is down but not too bad, i would say a foot lower then last year opener. We go up to post creek and cobb bay and don't leave the lake anymore.

Rnel,   how are the water levels, everything looks to be down a couple feet.  Are you fishing out lakes or just spending your time on Sturgeon.  How far north are you getting on the lake.  enjoy your trip.

The last good satellite view I seen was on the 9th and it looked like most of the ice was gone, some white in the middle. We leave on Friday heading to Sturgeon.
