Lots of boat traffic over the holiday weekend kept fishing to a mininum but the walleye are still biting. Jigging structures and ledges in 13-18 fow produced a mixed bag of walleye and cats. Many slot fish and a few for the pan. Plenty of short fish and perch mixed in. Should be a good pattern for another couple weeks with some cooler weather expeceted.
Increased boat traffic over the weekend pushed the fish deeper and slowed things down a bit, but the walleye are still biting. Nightcrawers are out performing leeches, but leeches are still working and have taken some of the largest fish. Light jig heads and slowly moving presentations along ledges or edges. 13-18 FOW has produced best.
The mid-lake (early summer) partnern is in effect. Walleye and a mixed bag are biting on worms and leeches. Finding a little current helps. There is far less than normal due to the drought conditions. Jigging presentations have worked best for me. Lighter jigs tipped with live bait worked slowly have produced the most bites.
Water temps have gone back to the low 40s nearly everywhere on the lake. The movement to shallower water is stalled out. Lots of rapidly changing strong winds have blown the warm water out of the shallows. Fish should be stacked up in structures adjacent to areas that will warm over the weekend.
The perch spawn is just about wrapping up. The crappie are just starting to show up in less than 10' of water. The weekend cool down will probably shut that down, but things should get going by mid to late next week. Some of the more protected areas had water temps above 50, the main lake is still at about 42
Water temps remain around 42 on the big parts of the lake and there is a great deal of current. Typical late April shallow water fishing seems a bit behind. Perch are currently spawning. The crappie have not moved shallow yet. Have been using a mixed bag of live bait. Perch are biting primarilly on worms.
