Fished the Holcombe Walleye Open today along with 15 other teams. Plenty of nice fish caught in a variety of methods including jigging, rigging, trolling, scoping and slip bobbers. Biggest walleye caught was 23". Our boat wasn't blessed with the big fish, but we had some action landing around 20 walleye and a variety of incidental panfish. Looking forward to doing it again next year.
The CVWL Fall Shootout (walleye tourney) on Holcombe is less than three weeks away (9/17/23). We currently have 13 registered/paid teams of the 19 spots. If you are looking to sign up for the tournament, check out the Chippewa Valley Walleye League Facebook page and contact Jason on the flyer. For those that reached out and haven't mailed in the entry yet, please do so to lock up your spot! First come first serve (not in until you pay)! On a side note, my buddy was up on Holcombe Saturday am and was able to land 6 walleye with the biggest being 18", most under the slot. Pitching crawlers along with some trolling techniques that can be shared after the tourney if you stick around Eastbay to shoot the breeze! Water temp was 73ish.
For those asking about the upcoming walleye tournament, it is a 2-person catch, photo, release event using the FishDonkey app so nothing is kept or weighed in like traditional tournaments. Easy on the fishery and also allows the opportunity to register slot fish (no different than every musky tournament). Any other questions, reach out to the number in the flyer. Still some spots available, but filling up nicely. Should be fun and anyone can win it!
The muskie is a fish of a thousand cast.
Keep an eye on the barometric pressure and moon phase and go after them.
Even if conditions aren't the best, get on the water.
Using a black and orange bucktail is a great option.
Don't wait for the perfect day or you may never fish.......that would be sad.
Good luck!
