History & Status of the Fishery
Lakefront Pond is a 13-acre, class 40 lake located within the 141-acre Lakefront Park in the City of Prior Lake. Lakefront Pond has been stocked with black crappie, bluegill sunfish, largemouth bass and northern pike since management began in 2005 by the Fishing in the Neighborhood (FiN) program. Lakefront Pond has a fishing pier, boardwalk across the water and several fishing blocks around the water's edge. Shoreline restorations around the north and east sides of the lake have help improve water quality in Lakefront Pond.
During the 2009 survey of Lakefront Pond, northern pike captured ranged in length from 19.8 to 28.7 inches in length. The average length of northern pike captured was 24.5 inches. Bluegill abundance was well above the median level for this lake type. The average length of bluegill caught during this survey was 4.7 inches in length. Their range in total length was 3.7 to 7.2 inches.
Black crappie abundance was below the median level for this lake class type. They ranged in size from 4.3 to 6.9 inches in total length with an average of 5.0 inches. Three largemouth bass were caught during this survey, averaging at a total length of 12.5 inches long. The largest bass caught was 13.5 inches in total length.
Other species captured in high numbers during the survey were hybrid and pumpkinseed sunfish. Thirty-six painted turtles were captured as well as six snapping turtles.
During the winter of 2009/2010 the winter aerator was not operated for benefit of this fishery.
