The weather is warm! The ice is dangerous!

Once again, it is that time of the year when people are worried about the ice when it gets a bit warm. In my area, ice is 16 to 20 inches at this time. I'm all for peoples safety. But there always seems to be some unnecessary worry or even panic about the ice this time of the year. From your experience,  when is it time to really be careful,  and at what point should people stay off the ice?

Personally I think that's a horrible idea to be driving on it this weekend, especially with no bridges out. It'll likely be ok for wheelers and snowmobiles and walking for a little while yet, but I think the days of driving vehicles are done after tomorrow. Just my opinion.

I am new to ice fishing (first season) and planning on going out on Winnebago this weekend to try out some new equipment. Getting on the lake by the fisherman's park boat lunch area on the east side of the lake with my pick up. Do you think I will be safe if I follow others tracks? Just worried about warm temps and recent rain fall.

When you drill a hole and it comes up in chunks then its time to put the gear away.
