Morell Mushrooms
In my experience dying elms are best!! once the tree is dead/bark all fallen off the tree is only good for another year or 2... recently cut fence lines or ditches are good... creek lines/ river banks... railroad beds..small patches of woods that recieve a lot of sun. One of my best spots is a railroad bed with river run off right by it..its often times a smelly area but great for mushroom picking.. the ones I picked the other day were growing along the driveway of the property I deer hunt with many elms around.. also remember often times the shrooms aren't directly under the elm they are often 10 15 20 yards away
I looked in a few different spots over the weekend but didn't find any. I was looking around Dupage county, IL. The morel page I follow on Facebook has posted a couple finds in northern Illinois, but most of the activity is still down in the southern half of the state.
