Time to talk BREWERS!!!!
3/30/02 @ 9:29 AM
Yeah I know baseball is ruined and ther Brewerw are almost as severly hampered by Princess Prieb as they are the lack of revenue sharing, but Im still excited. I am probably crazy but I think the Crew should be .500 this year and if Sheets, Wright, Quevedo, and Nuegebaur pitch up to their potential and we dont swing at everything, I think the crew can win 90 and be in the wild card race late, which is something we havent seen in a long, long time. They must finish over .500 to avoid 10 years straight of losing seasons. I think it is time for a coup to remove Princess Prieb.

One thing I've liked about the NFL is that when calls are just terribly missed, NY (or wherever the central officiating team is) is communicating in real time and calls are getting changed and fixed in real time. I see it every Sunday. It has enhanced to flow of the game and the overall product.
I don't understand why baseball can't do the same thing. The 4 umps huddled up on the Judge interference for a couple minutes and then still got the call wrong. That was so blatant and obvious, why can't someone from NY just tell the crew chief "Interference, runner at first is out" make the damn call and move on.
For the improvements baseball has made in the flow of the game, some of the game is still painful at times. How about the Ortiz hit last night originally called a foul ball. Umps get the call correct and award Ortiz 2nd base. Then have a conversation with the Ray manager for multiple minutes about it. Manager was obviously arguing the extra base, but what the heck is there to talk about? The crew chief says "fair ball, runner is awarded 2nd base." THEN MOVE ON.

My take is the catcher moved towards the batter, which would nullify the hit on the catcher's helmet. It is no different than Rizzo standing very close to the plate, and leaning into a strike, and they give him first base when he gets hit. Judgement calls. I did not like it. I also think Adames should have thrown the ball into Judge's face and said "oops".
According to the post game guys I listened to Bill Schroeder, runner from third could not advance but batter Bauer swinging 3rd strike should do have been able to run to first! Murphy got ejected over this! I'll look for a more reliable source to confirm this tomorrow!
It was the right call like it or not
