My son and I were in Price county on public land again this year. I saw 2 does Saturday and that was it for the weekend. I heard 17 shots on Saturday and 5 on Sunday morning. We didn't stay to hunt Sunday evening. I imagine I can tack on 5 more shots for Sunday eve. for a grand total of 27 shots , as far as the ear can hear on two calm days. I can hear a shot 3-5 mi. away when it's calm. The weird thing is there are a few more deer this year than last year, but everyone gave up last year when it was even worse. Sure is dismal hunting . It was very quiet, almost no hunters. Except for so few deer seen , I liked it. It was 13 on Sat. morning and 7 Sunday morning.
One more pic...
Also gottacarp awesome pic. Congrats to your daughter - good stuff!
My 15 year old son shot this guy this morning around 9 AM. Other than that he had one doe pass by his stand yesterday morning, and one this morning. Waupaca County
Well it was a pretty good opener!my daughter got her first gun buck! 130 yard shot first deer she has ever shot at with a gun!couldn't be more proud!now the bad part is there was 2 bucks that came in she shot hers gave me the gun and I missed the bigger one!lmao! I guess I should have just let her shoot it for me hahaha
Waupaca co:
sat all day yesterday and got 1 small antlerless, had a group of about 6 doe come through early but flanked me never offering a shot, then nothing til before dark seen another group of 5 doe on adjacent land. pretty slow was a lot of shooting early and really tapered off by 10am.
today got another med. sized antlerless hunted til 10am only deer seen, was a great morning cold and calm very few shots today. hopefully get some ducks yet this week and maybe that buck! congrats to all who harvested a deer.
I planned on sitting all day since I did not see a deer last yeaR. Opening day about 12:30 Wood cty, public caught over my back shoulder what I thought was waving grass.
Turned out to be this 7 pointer bobbing his head.
All I seen was the bobbing horns because the head and body was covered by brush. Many many thanks to Tim Plucinski, Dan and Hunter Hardrath for taking the time out of their gang's drive to help pull this beauty out of the woods. They are the definition of true sportsman!
Dan, you taught your son well. And Tim you are the MAN. May you and your group be blessed always with good hunting.
Nice work jjb. You earn it this year. If you go to the full version of the site and not the mobile you should be able to post a pic. I get the same thing from the mobile version.
Deer are goofy this year. My cams show a lot of rut activity in Oct aND very little after. Today had bucks grunting and chasing does.
My cousin got a nice 8pt last night and my other cousin shot a fawn because he's horrible at judging deer size apparently.one neighbors buddy got a decent eight point. The other three neighbors each shot small fork horns. I saw a lot yesterday. At one time I had 18 does and fawns and one buck all within 200 yards. Saw one shooter this morning but he was on the neighbor's I don't have permission for so I had to let it pass.
