Hamburg State Park

Rich in historical and natural resources, and equipped with modern-day facilities for the ultimate camping experience, Hamburg State Park is a great site for RV vacations. This 741-acre state park is located off Georgia Highway 102, in Mitchell, Georgia, and features the 225-acre Hamburg Lake which offers fun, recreation and fishing opportunities for campers and visitors on holiday in their RV.

Facilities at the pet-friendly Hamburg State Park include 32 site-specific tent, trailer, and RV campsites, one group shelter that seats 50 people, two seasonal picnic shelters, a playground, a trailer dump station, a boat ramp and boat rental facilities, a fishing pier, as well as a Grist Mill and Museum. The campground in the park, which offers shaded sites along the edge of quiet Hamburg Lake that is fed by the Little Ogeechee River provides hot showers, water and electric hookups for RVs.

While you’re camped at Hamburg State Park, you can enjoy, to the fullest, boating fishing, geocaching, hiking on the three and a half miles of trails, paddling, photography, picnicking, boat rentals, aquacycling, canoeing, and kayaking. If you’re a wildlife enthusiast, then you should look for turtles, alligators, raccoons, deer, birds and numerous other animals that live within Hamburg State Park.

The restored 1921 water-powered grist mill in the park which is fully operational affords campers and visitors the opportunity to buy corn meal.


Transportation

Driving

Accessing Hamburg State Park in an RV, trailer, or car is easy because the park is located off Georgia Highway 102, six miles northeast of Warthen, and 20 miles north of Sandersville, via Hamburg State Park road. Navigation within the park is easy as there are local roads leading to various parts of the park. Furthermore, there are no driving restrictions within Hamburg State Park. There are two entrances into the park along the Hamburg State Park Road; The East Park Entrance, and the West Park Entrance.

Parking

Hamburg State Park has three parking lots for RVs, trailers, and cars. The parking spaces are located around the boat ramp, staff residences, and fishing pier. While on RV holiday at Hamburg State Park, you can park overnight if you’ll be spending the night.

Reservations Camping
Hamburg State Park Campground

The campground in Hamburg State Park has 32 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs/trailers and tents, as well as a group shelter and two picnic shelters. The campsites in the campground are equipped with electric and water hookups for RVs, and the RV length limit in the campground is 40 feet. A few host sites offer full hookups, which includes sewer connections, but this option is only available to campground hosts. Some of the campsites are ADA-accessible. Amenities at the campground include hot showers, a playground, a trailer dump station, comfort station, laundry, and fishing pier. Driving in and out of the campground is via a one-way road that goes around the campground. Quiet hours in the park is between 10pm and 7am.

In-Season
Geocaching

Hamburg State Park offers the outdoor adventure treasure hunt game of geocaching for RV campers. With your GPS-capable device, you can join the group of treasure hunters that seek to locate caches distributed across the park. Some of the caches are easy to locate, while some others are really tricky, thereby immersing campers in the fun experience. Bonus caches are also available. What’s more, depending on how many caches you complete (15, 30, or 40), you will be eligible for a bronze, silver, or gold level coin.

Hiking

On your RV vacation at Hamburg State Park, if you enjoy outdoor exploration on foot, then you’re in luck, because the park has 3.5 miles of hiking trails that offer diverse and interesting experiences and surprises at every bend. Parts of the White Trail, Red Trail, and Blue Trail in the park are located along the shores of the Hamburg Lake offering hikers the scenic and amazing view of the 225-acre reservoir.

Fishing

Fishing is a popular activity on Hamburg Lake at Hamburg State Park as anglers and RV campers enjoy great lake fishing for crappie, largemouth bass, bream, channel catfish and redear sunfish. Hamburg State Park offers some of the best bass fishing in its lake making it one of the most preferred destination for campers and anglers. If you do not have your own equipment, it is even possible to borrow fishing equipment at the park.

Arts and Crafts Festival

The Hamburg Arts and Crafts Festival is an annual event at Hamburg State Park where campers and visitors enjoy various sights, sounds and smells that tantalize the senses. RV campers and guests at the festival are treated to barbeque plates, homemade food, fried twinkles, funnel cakes, Cajun pork curls, amongst other delicacies. Entertainment is provided by music groups and cloggers.

Paddling

The Hamburg Lake in the park offers RV campers and tourists interesting paddling experiences for all skill levels so that everyone will have a fully enjoyable time. Aquacycles, canoes & kayak rental facilities are provided at this state park for those that do have their own, and those that have just need to ensure their equipment comply with the safety standards of the park before they deploy it on the lake.

Boating

Boat lovers see RV camping at Hamburg State Park as a must-do activity. The park offers a boat ramp, as well as a boat rental facility for pedal boats, surf bikes, fishing boats, and electric motors. Furthermore, private boats are also permitted on Hamburg Lake in the park. There is a 10-horsepower limit for private boats for the tranquil setting and wildlife in the park to be preserved. A parking lot is located around the boat launch ramp so that you can park you rig nearby while you go boating.
