this photo was on Monona bay last year December 11. quarter in ice. I swore I would never walk on something like that let alone fish it. I was there about 10 min and big crack I left. hoping around same time as last year. was on Stoughton ditches earlier that day with a couple in of ice.

How far south are we talking?  I'm guessing end of November for Marquette County. There's been a few rare years when people were on the ice by 2nd weekend of rifle season and this year feels like one of those years to me.  Since rifle season is early this year I'll go with just after it 11/29.

It depends on who you believe. Farmers Almanac says colder and snowier than average. Weather stiffs say El Nino, which is warmer and less snowy than normal. Since I broke down and bought a nice new locator and ice fishing suit, it will probably be February.

I think I'll be able to walk onto Wind Lake by the 15th of December. My goal every year is to be on the ice before Christmas. That way if I find I need to replace something I can watch for sales. Plus life is just better when you can be on the ice.

December 17th. Of course this is all dependent on which lake, how deep.... West End of Pewaukee froze up about this date last year.
