Who's got one ? what are you growing ? and how's it coming along? Mine consists of sweet corn , cabbage , brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli ,cucumbers, zucchini, peas, tomatoes , peppers , acorn squash, pumpkins, and assorted spices. The cold wet weather hasn't been very conducive to good growth so far for me. But with warmer weather in the forecast things should turn out. I hope those of you growing fair better.

Simple - Buy 10-10-10 fertilizer, fill up push behind spreader. Spread throughout lawn. Water lawn. Go to store and purchase 10 pounds of onions for $1.

Kale, broccoli and cauliflower all popped through yesterday. Just waiting on corn and beans planted a week ago and beets/kholorabi/basil/cilantro planted on Sunday. Second planting of brassicas will be going in this weekend along with peppers and then we should be done planting until Memorial weekend for the warm season veggies. Looks like one night in the mid 30s on Thursday, I'll probably cover the tomatoes to be safe.

Skillz - sweet potatoes are fun to grow. They like to vine so make sure to give them plenty of room. Long growing season so get them in early, but they also can't take the cold so weather has to cooperate. An early fall frost can really hurt their production. They are heavy feeders and don't like drought. I water and fertilizer my sweet potatoes more than any other vegetable I grow. I got my first round of sweet potatoes in the ground this weekend. I think it's a little early but I have so many slips that I can sacrifice a few. Last year I tried trellising one bunch of sweet potatoes but that really attracted the japanese beetles and they didn't do nearly as well as the ones I let vine on the ground. Each node will produce roots similar to a cucumber, pumpkin, etc and I think that helps alot with drought tolerance. I've had far better results storing sweet potatoes over winter than regular potatoes so we are skipping the regular potatoes and I have a 20x20 garden designated just for sweet potatoes this year.
