I had an interesting day yesterday. I boated and released my biggest pike so far. It was 40 1/4". Caught it on a 5" Senko wacky worm and 3/0 octopus hook. I definitely need some type of leather gloves to prevent sliced thumbs! When releasing a good size pike, even while wearing gloves, I assume it's not good for the fish to hold it like a bass. It seems this might be a little hard on the lower jaw. I stay away from the gills as this may also harm the fish. One hand under the jaw, support the middle and ease it back into the water seems the way to go. Has anyone tried those Lindy fish gloves? At $30 for one it seems a little high but they claim it holds a slimy fish well. I wouldn't want one to slip out of my hands and bounce around. Things in my favor yesterday... #1: troll motor was on so I wasn't blown into shore. #2: Power Pro 40# cut through the weeds it tried to hide in. Things not in my favor... No bandaids! My Revo3 SX bait caster is still covered in blood.
