In search of some good bronzeback lakes - Ironwood County

Heading up to Hurley, WI with some friends this weekend to catch some bronzebacks. Anybody have any good lakes in mind we should check out while we're up there? We're planning to hit Chequamegon Bay one of the days but the other day and a half are wide open to explore. P.S. We're willing to travel to find some 6lbers

there are only two places in wisconsin where you can realistically expect to find an ACTUAL 6lb smallmouth, chequamegon bay and green bay(excluding the mississippi and menominee(spelling?)). they certainly exist elsewhere but these two waters are the only ones where people will pass a lie detector test on the 6lb question. there is a big difference between that one 6 that a guy caught 5 years ago and actually putting one in the boat on your one weekend in the north. with that said, the TFF is a fantastic fishery with large numbers of big, thick, catchable smallmouth that look like 6 until you put them on a scale and face the music that your 6 pounder is actually a four. like any place on the great lakes, chequamegon bay can be a very difficult water if the weather is wrong or the fish are not coooperating. the TFF will be a great place to rip some lips if you are struggling on the bay or the weather is not cooperating. it is a world class, large water with lots of islands, bays, and multiple landings you can use to turn a bad weather weekend into a good time. you'll catch walleye while targeting smallmouth as well. The gile is special also but from what I hear, the fish run larger on the TFF.
