From what I understand, a 49 yr. old man was staying at Burhops and rented the pontoon and was out by himself and either fell in or was taking a dip and drown. He was said to be a good swimmer but the under tow and currents can be surprising. I am not one to mandate laws, but life preservers are looked at as a nuisance. This year I purchased a new one for 119.00 that inflates automatically if I fall in and should get knocked out and can't pull the cord. I took it to Canada and wore it every time I was on the water. I was the only one in the boat who wore one and the rest of the preservers were stowed. My brother-in-law even remarked "You are overly cautious!
