I went with a Mathews Avail compound last year . I bought it cause I can be at 52 lbs and get 252 fps. with my arrows . With my old bow, a Mission Endeavor, I was at 56 lbs and 232 fps. I shoot my 52lb Mathews and every single time I pull back I feel the soreness of the pull. I can shoot 20 times and I am still sore. Next bow will be a crossbow but hope it does not happen for a long time. I will go down to about 50 lbs and that is minimum for the bow. After that, I am done pulling on a string.

Hockeyguy39 here is some info on the Centerpoint Mercenary.

A good website for crossbow info in general.

Regarding the CenterPoint 370, any idea what the difference is between the sniper and the Mercenary?

I'm another fanboy of the Centerpoint 370.  I used one for two seasons and it performed well.  I then purchased a Centerpoint Patriot 415 package at my local Walls of Mart store.  This bow came with a scope, crank cocking device, a rope cocking device, quiver and three arrows.  I upgraded the scope to a speed compensating type scope.  Since my Patriot cronied at about 390 fpc (with the arrows I use) I set the scope speed at 390 fpc and was good to go at all reasonable distances after sighting it in at 30 yds.  My only complaint is that the Patriot is a heavy bow and not that easy to shoot offhand.  Since I hunt from a climber type tree stand and have no shooting rest I limit my shooting to 40 yds.

That is all good to know, that if you're killing deer using a crossbow that shoots up to 370 fps, that a 415 will work too.  It'll be 200 dollars well spent if I even kill one deer with it, in my opinion, because it'll extend my season a bit more.  Like I mentioned before (I think) I would get a regular bow, but after my shoulder surgery and having my bicep tendon removed I don't have the strength anymore to hold back a bow for more than a second or two.  I am left handed, so I'd be holding the bow in the hand of the side I had the shoulder surgery, so it'd be difficult to hold it for very long.

Im with Hogman2010. I love my center point sniper 370.

It is amazingly accurate and way less expensive than some of the others.I have had it for a couple years now and have had zero problems and have taken several deer with it

Because of shoulder problems I purchased a Center point sniper 370 a few years ago. Then it was a little over  $300. Now you can get them for $225. The scope has dots for 20,30,45,55 yrds. Sighted in at 20 and then got bulls eyes at the remaining yardages. Shot my first deer that year at 45 yrds. This bow is nothing fancy but very reliable and accurate. I would never be able to justify paying $1000 or more for some of the other x bows out there after shooting this one.

Right, I've taken several as well and all have passed through. Never heard of one getting "knocked down" without being a spine shot though. Mine shoots about 385 I believe. 0-30 great, start to see the change at 40 but still accurate. I wouldn't take chances and push it, never harvested one past 25.

I always shot a bow until they allowed crossbows, then my wife said "I think I can do that" after multiple attempts to get her a bow. I didn't want to spend a bunch either and bought two so we can shoot together.

370 fps is still way faster than a regular bow can shoot. Different arrows are used though.  I just don't know much about bow hunting...heck I don't know anything!  But for 200 bucks i think it's a descent bow and it even has a scope and comes with a free winch winder thingie after mail in rebate! I always waited on getting a bow because they are usually so expensive. This one is affordable for me, so if it can kill a deer I'm happy! Maybe it won't shoot 60 yards like my buddie's did this year and kill a deer, but hopefully I'll get 40 yards.

I don't think they are designed to "knock down" a deer.

I do think it will be fully capable of propelling a bolt at anything you target.

Rocky Mountain RM-415 Cross Bow

I ordered this cross bow for my first ever cross bow.  It shoots 415 feet per second.  Do you think that'll be good enough to knock down a deer?

I have the Mission MXB320 and had it for two years now. i've shot about a half dozen Toms and 2 bucks and a doe.  i shoot chipmunks at 30 yards.  Yes it is an off shoot company of Mathews.  i wouldnt trade it for nothing. 6.3lbs 320feet per second.  I feel very comfortable shooting out to 60 yards with it.
