FISHING REPORT
11/21/14 6:25 PM CST
There were a few people out ice fishing today. 3 to 5 inches of ice has been reported. There is still some open water in spots and some shore ice is thin. Spud your way out and be careful! We just received a shipment of ice fishing supplies today. We have hand augers, LP augers and a 12 volt auger on sale thru December. If there is an auger that your looking for let me know and we will get back to you with a sale price and can usually get it in 2 days with no shipping charges. We have rosey reds, crappie, walleye and shiner minnows on hand, along with waxies, spikes, red worms and night crawlers. We will be getting red, blue, purple and assorted colored spikes in any day. Stop in and check out our store.

FISHING REPORT

Ice Depth: 4" Conditions: Cloudy Air Temp: 16° - 20° F
First trip this afternoon, arrived 2:30 pm. First spot I checked north of town had <2" new ice. Backed out of there and headed out NW of the marina. Ice varied in thickness but most 4" to 5", eight to eleven turns of the Nils 4 1/2' auger that very reliably cuts 1/2" per turn. Water very murky compared to last year's early ice but we are 1t least 11 days earlier. Jig disappeared after a foot down. There is still a patch of open water out to the NW of the marina, be careful. No hits at all, no definite marks on the ICE 35. Hundreds of swans and geese headed south.

Ice fishing is coming soon! I just restocked my Franzen Lures and B-Y Bait plastics and bait pucks. The ice is forming I'll check the thickness on Sunday and post it.

Hey tully and mario i hope you guys had a killer guiding season. Everyone safe and successful!! having said that i was curious when she locks up out front of waters edge and the boat houses? I noticed last year that there is some current just outside the marina. does that really retard ice formation or does she lock up like anywhere else?

Thanks Cronk

Half day trip yesterday with Jim and Ron, a couple of great brothers. Come to find out, we lived two blocks apart and went to the same grade school back in the day in Milwaukee. We had a successful afternoon, caught some big crappies, bluegills and perch- and had a great time.

You can't beat the fall bite. John and RC had a great time catching crappies and gills - the largest crappie was 14". George wanted crappies as well, and he had a successful day, too. We were so busy catching, we had to take time out to enjoy the fall colors which are at peak in our area right now.

Yesterday was just another beautiful fall day on the river with Gary and Stan. We got a late start due to the heavy fog but got on our way as soon as the sun began to burn it off. Gary struck first with a nice walleye, followed by Stan who got a nice one of his own. Several more were caught and then it was time to go after panfish. They caught a mixed bag of big gills and crappies. Then they did a little vertical jigging and picked up two big saugers to end the day.

A great day on the river, with Mario (expert guide) out of Stroddard. Huge gills very respectable crappies. We aren't use to such large fish!! I showed my cousin Jeff the fish who fishes up on Eagle river chain, he asked if i was going to have some of the fish mounted? I said no, I'll mount them in the freezer. The wife and I stayed in one of the new cabins from Rivers Edge, NICE!! Almost all fish were caught on a tiny chunk of red worm, simple gold hook, one split shot.

A beautiful day on the river and the fish were biting. A half day trip with Terry and Linda who wanted pan fish for a big fish fry at home with family. Mission accomplished. The trees are turning color on the bluffs and the colors are a sight to see.

Had John and Dan on a half day trip this afternoon targeting pan fish. Both John and Dan are seasoned fishermen and it was their first time on the Mississippi. Didn't take long for the guys to catch a 5 gallon bucket full of bluegills, perch and crappies. Both of them agree that our fishery is one of the best kept secrets.

After talking about old times, Dan and I realized he had fished with me when I was chartering on Lake Michigan over 35 years ago. It really is a small world.
