The channel never freezes going into the big lake out of the cove, so no it would not be safe

FISHING REPORT
1/2/14 2:46 PM CST
I took the grandkids out for their first ice fishing trip on Tuesday. No cars in the parking area. We were out for about 2 hrs. Kids caught plenty of 3-6" perch and a few small bluegills. Nothing worth keeping, but they had a blast. I had the pop-up set up, so they could see the fish down below. We had a 30"+ northern swim thru. They were pretty excited about that.

Was out last week during the warm snap. Saw about 20 guys on the cove and one truck. Didn't see many fish landed. We caught one small perch.
