I saw a ton of fish jumpingjust like the last time was there, but not so much as a follow that I know of.
Yeah, my cousin was also telling me about how they're not stocking Browns anymore, at least not Germans, because they don't really catch them on the charters. Sad to hear.
Do people generally do well casting cranks and spoons in the marina throughout the winter then? That's the only area where I've gotten any action, and I kind of prefer to stay in there on the kayak.

Everything minus one thing is pretty spot on, they have been pumping heat, but the biggest difference right now is due to that unseasonably warm weather we've had. The temperatures outside the harbor are still above 40F and it's been in the mid 50s inside. This time of year your normally lucky if the heat from the plant puts the harbor into the 40s with temps outside the harbor in the mid 30s.... normally. That being said, plenty of bait around. Lotsof small alewives hanging around this year inside the harbor.
There are several factors leading to a sluggish bite. The 2 biggest is the lack of numbers the dnr stocking of trout. The charters wanted more Salmon, so less trout have been being stocked Past several years. Guess it’s all about the $$$. Unfortunately the shore fisherman takes the brunt of this!
There was a DNR Great Lakes survey that went around this year. I took it! And Communicated with a dnr person directly by email. If you get a chance, take it! Respectfully voice your opinion please!
Probably the biggest factor is weather! We’re in the middle of a record breaking warm month. Not normal for December. When cold sets in, they pump more warm water from plant , bringing in the bait. Guess what follows the bait! Plant has not pumped much warm water, as the smoke stacks has hardly had Smoke the past several weeks!
We need some nights in the teens and single digits to create some demand for energy!
Actually, the rainbow action has been pretty good the past 4-5 weeks. Most rainbow action I’ve seen in years! I’ve had a couple frustrating days where action was good, having 11-16 fish follow or hit, but Not landing 1 of them. There is a few guys doing pretty well! Making some adjustments to presentation has helped.
Start praying for some nasty Cold🥶 weather, and bite should pick up!

I was there all day today, too, and caught nothing. Saw some steelhead, but I did't see any brown trout. I fished the intake pond, by the lighthouse, by the marina, by the discharge and there were no takers. There were some pike hanging about by the marina, but I couldn't get them to bite, either.
Took the kayak out today and didn't even get a bite. A couple weeks ago I went 0 for 3 on shad raps, the last one managed to unhook itself in the net and escape. Talked to a few other people today that didn't have great luck either. Anyone know what factors might have caused a bad bite? I know that's part of fishing, but it's about an hour and a half drive for me to get over there, and it's always a bit disappointing to go biteless.
