This line of storms has 50-70 mph winds.   Lake is about to open up in the next 60 minutes and massive ice shoves on the east shore

Seeing as the State nor DNR have the power or authority to officially close Sturgeon spearing because of ice conditions, I say we start a "poll" here 2 just guess how many vehicles/people will be pulled to safety over the weekend & THEN, the season will be officially closed! My guess is 5!

Save fish as there will be no lost population and help spawning so Feds feel better to not add as endangered. Not per word you wrote but basicly what you said. I've seen this said on some Facebook sites. To me your giving ammunition to make it sound like it's good to protection because their at risk.

Can't remember if I've ever seen a February rainbow! Looks like evening temps will start making ice again by the weekend.

*one of the strongest in 70 years (the 2015/16 el nino was stronger). That being said, strong winds tonight and tomorrow could get things moving. Not pretty.

Chances are that with the forcast of 40mph winds , warm temperatures and rain the ice may all be piled up on the East and North Shores by Friday night anyway!!! Well they said strongest El Nino in 70 years, guess they got that right!!

I wanted to get out and try for Burbot this year but that's not something I would be comfortable doing. But consider this for the spearing season if it is too dangerous it get out. It's a Free spawning year and the Licence fees help restore lost populations and gives the state more time and money to prevent a listing as endangered and full protection from harvest by the Endangered spieces act.

I've been through the ice a few times, on accident 3. As a rescue tech and in training more than I can remember.   Just consider this. The average response time from 911 call to contact with the cold patient in the water from a volunteer FD is around 20-30 minutes.  I don't see where a 100 year old fish that tastes like dirt is worth that.
