Raining 53°
Water: 49°
Fished Pine on opening day from 7-2. Was hoping for prespawn smallmouth temps but it was still too cold. Water ranged from 49 main lake northern end and 48 main lake southern end with 50-53 in the bays. Boated 5 bass, 4lm and 1sm, nothing of any size. Fished from 25-1fow. only catches were up really shallow in the bays with the highest temps. Warmer temps on the horizon should get the spawn going soon.
Pontificate haha I need to sound smart, and use big words so I feel smart too, despite nothing about prior posts being arrogant.
Yes, over harvest doesn't happen that's why the DNR is starting to put in panfish limits, because they are certain there's so many fish in lakes and over harvest can't hurt the population, funny stuff. Lake Michigan perch prime example of how over harvest can decimate an enormous fish population, so how many fish there are is irrelevant. Do some research once on how much over harvest can affect lakes, and the incredible results they're seeing in states like Minnesota from the stricter limits, there's a reason it's starting to become a trend. I also said selective harvest.
Read the post by Spin on the SE Lakes and Rivers page, there's a guy who has it figured out, and teaching it to kids already, that's what needs to start happening.

I believe if one knew how many fish were in a lake they'd be less likely to pontificate about catch and release. Too many fish results in stunted growth. All the catch limits won't affect that. The weather and spawning conditions affect
the population more than anything. Crappies are cyclical due to many complex factors, including disease, predation etc.

Selective harvest wouldn't hurt either, don't understand why so many can't practice that, nope gotta keep almost everything. Help ensure a healthy population for years to come, especially with insane electronics like livescope, lower limits, and selective harvest need to be practiced. Hopefully the DNR continues to put in stricter panfish limits around the state like they have been.
Agreed Pine is very tough to fish usually, and thankfully.
