Just remember... As soon as that fish comes into your boat it's now in your possession... Which is 4.. one over your daily bag limit... Net it outside your boat you are ok but if it dies then that opens up a can of worm .. By then you may have gotten off to a bad start with law enforcement.. lf you are on a good bite just keep 2 until you are ready to call it a day .. just my opinion...

From the WI DNR, they clearly state you must stop fishing for a species once limit is reached:

So everyone understands you can only keep 3 walleye . It doesn't mean you have to stop fishing for them. It just means don't keep more than 3 each fisherman.

If you get a limit of walleyes you can't fish for walleyes anymore. If you are catching other species you can continue to fish for those species. If you're catching 30 walleyes to one white bass, it may be hard to explain what you're doing to a warden but we all know on Petenwell there are times you are catching the same amount of each species at certain times. Then it could easily be justified to continue fishing. I just wouldn't continue casting #6 rippin raps or 5 inch plastics and try to explain to someone that you're targeting only crappies at that point. It's like guys in the spring casting obvious musky and big pike baits trying to play it off as looking for a big walleye, while they're casting a 9 inch, 1lb bait that has teeth marks from last fall from that 48 inch ski they caught.

Just a thought/comment that I hope the new regulations cover when they are officially posted. If I am fishing and catching a mixed bag of walleyes/perch/whitebass/crappies and I keep 3 walleyes, does that mean I cant fish anymore even though I am catching other species on the same method? Asking because there were a few times jigging last year I caught more perch than walleye (never heard of a sauger on Petenwell but cant say they arent there somewhere)

And then size limits still vary by body of water?

Thomas...just watched you on The Next Bite...cool show.  I was surprised how beat up the bigger fish looked given it was fall...looked more like post spawn fish.  Are those fish really old?

It is state wide. Castle Rock included.

If panfish limits reduced I can see culling happening, larger panfish will be kept. All those 9" bluegills, 12" crappies will be kept. Then it will be size limits. Some lakes are doing fine with how the regulations are right now. Remember a few years ago on the outcry on needing a whitebass limit them back to coolers full last year. How did all those fish recover in one year ?

the DNR has not posted the 2024/2025 regulations on their website yet, I think we need that for clarification

Your right, I was looking at the 23-24 and was thinking that was the one just published.  Have to wait for the 24-25 as you said.
