Between the carp and pleasure boaters, stirring it up all summer, it gets pretty murky. It is a very shallow lake overall.

Are all those stickups still there on the west end of the lake?  It used to be a no motor zone and had great gill fishing but that was in the 70s.

Hey All. Did end up getting out to Yellowstone. Caught one Carp, about a 10-pounder. 'Proof of concept' fish. Hoping to try again in the Spring. Was wondering if all that shoreline growth above the dam re-grow every year? Like is it pretty clear in the Spring until it warms up? Beautiful spot. Great looking lake.

I've also heard rumblings about the carp/buff population tearing the lake up. A state biologist said that based on some nets they pulled, there's 2,000,000lbs of them in the lake and it's messing up water clarity/bottom structure.
I plan on coming down this Spring to bowfish and get some of them out of there.

If anyone's local to the lake (I'm in Sun Prairie) that'd be willing to clue me in when the ice is out and water clarity I would appreciate it. Would save me several hours drive time.
Shoot me a private message, or we can exchange email addresses. Whatever is best for you.

Herb.   The area above the dam is a nice place to try, nice parking area and lots of shoreline.   Bathrooms in the area too.

Hey All. I've been told by a few people that you've got a bit of a Carp problem. Not sure there's much I, or any angler, can do to fix that. But was hoping to come down sometime and battle a few. Do people mostly fish them off that berm on the Southeast end of the lake, near the spillway? Any other areas accessible from shore where they might be found in good numbers, near parking, and without lines getting in the way of boats? Thanks for any info.

Has any of the members fish Yellowstone within the past week? Just wondering what the water is like temp, clarity etc.
Thanks in advance
