FISHING REPORT

Ice Depth: 10" Conditions: Cloudy Air Temp: 21° - 25° F
I fished between the islands yesterday out from Watersedge Resort. The wind was brutal and about 30 fishermen braved it out for a slow day of fishing. In 3.5 hours of fishing i managed 15 keepers. Fish were on the camera but it took real finess to get them to commit. Saw about a dozen tip-ups out with zero flags. I stopped into the bait shop for the first time before going out and met Mike and saw his well equipped operation. He tells me that the shuttle will be running soon around the holidays.

Fished sat and Sunday for perch .fishing was slow. Was amazed to see a car driving out from the park on sat afternoon.. So, I took a picture. this guy had dogs with him on sat and one of them rain over to the guys next to us, this guy came over to retrieve his dog and the our neighbors told him he was crazy for driving out on the Mississippi this early. The guy was quite adamant that there was plenty of ice and went back to his car. Sunday morning we were first on the ice and I’m think around 7am when we seen the car coming back out.. But, after several minutes the car appeared to be in the same spot.. then several minutes late the car was gone. Fell in the canal in front of the landing car .. the car was completely submerged.. same guy from sat.

I heard he crawled out through the window and is fine, no word if he had the dogs today.. Hope NOT. And probably has allot of explaining to do… with the wife for putting her car in the Mississippi.

Be careful when going out from the landing.. stay to the left.. BIG hole in the middle.

We fished sat. in the River road bassmasters derby at stoddard. It was a great day to be on the ice and a good time was had by all. We caught a lot of nice gills, two perch and one crappie. We fished in about 4 feet of water and sight fished with tiny 1/100 oz jigs tipped with Glo ez plastics.A red plastic grub was our best color. My partner, the Big Jig, had the 4th largest crappie and tied for the 3rd largest perch. He lost the tie breaker on the perch because we did not register our fish until the end of the derby because the walk to the scale was so far from our shanty. Sad Anyway the big gills are there but are finiky and finese is needed to get the bigger ones. The derby was a big success and we look forward to next seasons contest. Big Smile Heres a picture of some of our nicer keepers.

We fished for a couple hours this afternoon. We set up in about 4 ft of water and sight fished in our shanty. The fresh snow made pulling our gear to our spot a lot tougher than last week. Tounge Out The good news was the fish were biting and we kept about 15 gills and one lone crappie. We released a lot of small gills and a few bass too. I also wanted to say thanks to the nice guy who pulled our sled in for us at the end of the day with his four wheeler.I was going to give you some custom lures but you were in a hurry so I gave them to you fishing partner. Thanks again Smile If anyone has any info on the ice fishing derby on 1/10 please post the info.. Here a picture of some of our keeper today.

We fished sat. morning until early afternoon. We sight fished from our shanty and caught a lot of nice gills. The bluegills are very finicky and finese is needed to catch the bigger ones. My father-in-law and I tried our luck this afternoon. Only managed to throw back 5 small gills and a tiny bass. No keepers. Didn't see anything with size being caught, just the occasional small bluegill.

We tried our luck this morning for some bluegills. The fishing was pretty slow today but I did catch one really nice bluegill and one decent perch. I lost a big bass right at the hole and caught one smaller one. Heres a picture of the big gill I caught on one of my custom ice lures. Happy New Year!!! Big Smile

1st time out was on saturday the 13th. Brought my hand auger cause I didn't think the ice would be that thick. What a mistake! Anyway, fishing was slow. Had only a few bites in a few hours. Not the Stoddard I normally fish in December.

Fished Friday-Sunday with mixed results. Seemed like the crappier the weather the more they bit. Friday late afternoon was good, Saturday was slow and Sunday in the morning was pretty good. Lots of sorting, between two people and 11 hours of fishing-about 50 keepers. Not that many good ones, but a couple 9"ers. Almost all the snow melted, and lots of standing water yesterday, it must be skating rink today. Was nice to be out in the warm weather, while it lasted

Was out last thursday and friday and it was also surprisingly slow. On Halloween I scoped out the area and it seems like the vegetation wasn't as thick in the usual ice fishing hot spots. Perhaps this explains the crappy first iceSad Hopefully somebody out there is having success in the bay.
