Rock River At BlackHawk Island Area Reports Only

Got out on the morning of Christmas Eve. Fished from 9 am til 3 pm. Launched at Groeler and fished the hole just above for a couple of drifts landing 2 saugers and an eye 15" to 17". They wanted minners. Plastic produced zero interest. Zipped down to the hole above the mouth and spot locked. Fish were in 12' to 15' tight to the bottom. Switched jigs out to hook and split shot. Fished just off of the bottom hanging over the side lazy style. Ate some good chili and reeled in about 10 more short eyes and saugers. Bite shut down around 2. Felt weird to be in the boat so late in the year. Here's hoping the ice decides to descend down to our neck of the woods before Spring is sprung.

Yesterday 26 ramp was locked up with ice couple inches thick.  Most of the river froze over bridge to Island bar.  Pretty much locked up in VFW area.  

How are  the ice conditions in the river from 26 to Kosh?

For those looking to get out before she freezes over, better giddy-up.  Water was at 34.5 today with a bit of skim ice on some shorelines. With cold temps in the forecast, I doubt it will stay open for another week, but you never know. Eyes were smacking plastics pretty good today. and picking up the blacktails.  We only boated 10 or so, but missed more than that.  

Is the black hawk park still closed or is it openn again?2

Rock River Groeler Road Boat Launch
Closed April 24-28
 
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced a temporary closure of the Groeler Road boat launch along the Rock River in Fort Atkinson.

The closure of this Jefferson County boat launch will allow for needed improvements to the concrete of both the launch and the parking lot.
The temporary closure will be from April 24 - April 28, 2023. DNR staff anticipate that these repairs will not be impacted by the rising water levels and will be completed in time for the 2023 general inland fishing opening day on May 6, 2023.
Rock River anglers should plan to utilize other boat launches within the area.

Legend! Looked like it was in Saturday when we drove down black hawk to check out water levels at the park. Unless my eye deceived me. 

Have not been up that way lately have they put pier in at Groeller yet.  Also I see there is a big bass tournament Sunday on kosh.  15-25 mph NW winds.  That’ll make a fun ride in a bass boat.  

Caught one spawned out female walleye and some whitebass. Water was 57 when I left. 
Wish people would use the plenty available single parking spaces and leave the double spots for trailer rigs at Kmart launch. Seems ignorant or inconsiderate to others.
