Good report Fishloveme! Yes, it won't be long now! I have fished Cherokee for over 50 years (Yes, I'm an old timer), a great early ice spot. Have done well there, always hit or miss. Ya just gotta keep hittin it all year. Always pays to get away from the crowds, shallow areas can be good. Lot's of lake out there, get out and explore! Always stop at DNS bait, their spikes are the best! Gettin darn cold out, it should ice up real quick! Stay safe and good fishing!

Fishing is mostly done in the 3 highlighted areas.  The area furthest out is about 5 feet deep and the other two areas is mostly about 3 feet deep.  There aren't a whole lot of weeds in the winter, most of it lays down in the winter. I have a buddy who prefers to use a locator in the shallow water because those crappies sometimes are right under the ice.  I've had luck a couple of times fishing with tip downs and a minnow right under the ice.  Tipup fishing for northern can be good especially first ice for northern and bluegill are hit or miss out here.  Sometimes some real good ones out there, other times only small ones. i've had better luck in the morning than in the late afternoon.  Parking is on Burning Wood Way and there is lots of room.  I have seen the entire street full of cars/trucks when it's busy!  First ice is soon.  Good luck!

Hello all. I’m a newbie to the Cherokee Marsh area.

For early ice, do people typically fish the more northern part of the marsh? Or just off the Cherokee Park in the main Cherokee Lake?

Also, what kind of depth are you guys looking for out there? Are the weed edges good? Are there weed edges even out there?

Thanks all for your help, and hope to see you out there!

Never been on Cherokee before. Where do people park and walk out from? Thanks!

Ice: 8"

Caught 2 northern and had two other flags as well as a bluegill yesterday. Saw many other folks catch northern throughout the time I was out. The ice is good off the park but there are open spots up and downstream. If any one found a vexilar early January please let me know. mine fell out of my sled on the way off the lake. Thanks!
