Im planning on dragging suckers for pike in the shipping channel mid May and haven't done it before. Can anyone recommend a "set up" such as hook and sinker size and type. Thanks for any suggestions!    Edit: I do plan on checking in with Howies when we go to get bait and supplies as previously recommended,  however I'd like to do some prepping beforehand and if I'm asking a shop for help, I wanna spend some money there at that time as well.

Going back about 7 years now, but.... I was up in early June looking for bass.  We ended up fishing by the ship building company, right in a man made bay with huge boats on the side.  No bass.  Could not keep the 18-27 inch pike off of our baits.   Had to leave because they were chewing up all the baits.

Pier-pressure... Thats something I didn't think about or consider and probably why I was told to fish them in April.  The weather is a little  nicer in May anyways!

Pike here don’t spawn until late April. Let them spawn in peace. Go catch em in mid May.

Probably going to want to call Howies and ask for Lance.  And if he isn't there, Adam.
I don't think you would have any trouble catching pike early in the bays in the shipping channel.  There are some nice weed flats that will hold fish and the weedline near the drop off once you get closer to downtown and the bridges.
I don't fish pike, but I know people that do and they get a lot in that bay on the south side of the channel close to Sonny's Pizza.

Dentpounder,
Contact Lance at Howie's Tackle & Archery in Sturgeon Bay Wis. He puts out the fishing reports on WDOR radio weekly for Door Co. during the open water fishing season. He is a wealth of information , and if his store doesn't have it you don't need it ! Be sure to also ask him about the Old Stone Quarry Just above Sturgeon bay !
