Lovewell State Park

Sitting on the shores of the 2,986-acre Lovewell Reservoir and characterized by scenic bluffs is the Lovewell State Park, a haven for outdoor lovers and RV campers. Located just 18 miles northeast of Mankato on US Highway 14, Webber, Kansas, the park offers a great blend of camping opportunities, fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and several special events for the pleasure of RV vacationers.

Facilities and amenities at Lovewell State Park include day-use areas, a seven-station, 14-target archery range, basketball and volleyball courts, swimming beach, boat ramps, group shelters, rustic and deluxe camping cabins, pay station, restrooms and showers, trailer dump stations, fish cleaning stations, marina, disc golf course, playground, and horseshoe pits. Picnic facilities are available throughout the day-use areas in the park. Lovewell State Park Marina serves a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu during peak season and boasts the best barbecue around!

Lovewell State Park is popular with RV campers as it offers excellent shade and provides utility hookup sites including freeze-proof water and sewer hookups at designated sites. Full and partial RV hookups are available at designated campsites within the campgrounds in the park. Activities to enjoy at the park include archery, bird watching, boating, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking, jet skiing, hiking, nature study, sail boating, stargazing, sunbathing, swimming, water skiing, wildflower viewing, wildlife viewing, and windsurfing.

Driving

Lovewell State Park is located 18 miles northeast of Mankato on US Highway 14, and is hence easy to access by RV, trailer, or any other motorized vehicle. Within the park, the campgrounds, day use areas, and various sites are accessible by the local paved and gravel road networks. As a result, finding your way around the park is easy. Moreover, there are no driving restrictions in the park.

Parking

There are numerous parking options for RVs and trailers at Lovewell State Park, since the park has eight parking lots distributed around the various campgrounds and areas in the park. You’ll find two parking areas around the Willow Campground and Archery Range, two parking lots around the Cedar Point Campground, two parking areas around the boat ramps in the eastern part of the park, one parking lot around the Southwinds Cabin, and one parking area by the Cemetery in the central part of the park. Furthermore, overnight parking facilities are available.

Cedar Point Campground

Cedar Point Campground in Lovewell State Park features 32 standard pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. Two of the campsites in the campground provide full hookup options (electric, water, and sewer hookups) for RVs, 20 campsites offer electric and water RV hookups, while 10 campsites offer only electric hookups for RVs. RV length limit at Cedar Point Campground is 50 feet. Restrooms and showers, parking areas, group shelter, dumpster, and a boat ramp are available at the campground. The roads within the campground are gravel-surfaced. All campers and camping units are limited to a stay of not more than 14 consecutive days. Fires are allowed in fireplaces, fire rings, and cooking grills. Quiet hours are 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Actions which alarm, anger, or disturb others are prohibited. Generators cannot be used during quiet hours.

Cottonwood Campground

Cottonwood Campground in Lovewell State Park consists of 30 standard pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. All the campsites in the campground are equipped with electric and water hookups for RVs. Some of the campsites are ADA accessible. RV length limit at Cottonwood Campground is 50 feet. Amenities at the campground include restrooms and showers, trailer dump station, and a dumpster. The roads within the campground are gravel-surfaced. All campers and camping units are limited to a stay of not more than 14 consecutive days. Fires are allowed in fireplaces, fire rings, and cooking grills. All campers and camping units are limited to a stay of not more than 14 consecutive days. Fires are allowed in fireplaces, fire rings, and cooking grills. Walleye Point Campground

Walleye Point Campground in Lovewell State Park features 39 standard pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. Five of the campsites in Walleye Point Campground offer full hookup options (electric, water, and sewer hookups) for RVs, 9 offer electric and water hookups for RVs, while 25 campsites offer electric RV hookups only. Some of the campsites in the campground are ADA accessible. RV length limit at the campground is 50 feet. Amenities around the campground include horseshoe pits, access to trailheads, dumpster, trailer dump station, basketball and volleyball courts, playground, cabin, and shelter. All campers and camping units are limited to a stay of not more than 14 consecutive days. Fires are allowed in fireplaces, fire rings, and cooking grills. Willow Campground in Lovewell State Park features 47 standard pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. The campground is subdivided into the North Willow Utility Campground and the South Willow Utility Campground. 15 of the campsites in Willow Campground offer full hookup options (electric, water, and sewer hookups), while 32 campsites offer electric and water hookups for RVs. Some of the campsites are ADA accessible, and the RV length limit in the campground is 50 feet. Restrooms and showers are available at the campground. All campers and camping units are limited to a stay of not more than 14 consecutive days. Fires are allowed in fireplaces, fire rings, and cooking grills. In-Season
Fishing

Lovewell State Park is the right place to enjoy fishing on the 2,986-acre Lovewell Reservoir while on RV camping holiday. Fish species in the lake include walleye (up to 27 inches), white bass/wipers (up to 25 inches). crappie (up to 13 inches), and three varieties of catfish (up to 10 pounds). The walleye spawn along the dam and other rocky banks and can be caught after dark when the fish move in shallow to spawn. The crappie spices are found around the marina, while the channel catfish and blue catfish can be found on the windblown side of the reservoir.

A fishing license is required to fish in Lovewell State Park and fishing is prohibited on boat ramps, courtesy docks, swimming beaches, and in swimming areas marked with buoys. As soon as you’ve caught the fish, you can proceed to the lighted, accessible fish-cleaning stations, with outlets for electric knives. The full-service marina in the park sells bait and tackle, as well as fishing licenses.

Boating

As a lover of water and water activities, particularly when on RV vacation, Lovewell State Park is just the right place for you. Thanks to the south shore’s high bluffs, the summer winds are blocked and the rough waters on the 35-feet deep Lovewell lake are alleviated, providing you the perfect setting for boating activities. Swimming

The Southwinds swimming beach in Lovewell State Park is the perfect place to enjoy plenty of sun and shade in addition to a wonderful swimming experience on the Lovewell reservoir. Campers at the park make it a point to visit the beach and enjoy the calm lake. Swimming is allowed in designated areas. Liquor and beer are prohibited on swimming beaches or in waters designated by buoys or other markers as swimming areas. For other beverages, only shatterproof containers are allowed.

Hunting/Archery

RV campers and vacationers enjoy hunting for game in the wildlife area in Lovewell State Park across the various wildlife habitats. The park has 2,215 acres of public hunting area available for campers and hunters around the reservoir, however a hunting license is required. Firearms may only be discharged in areas specifically designated for hunting or target practice.

In addition, a seven-station, 14-target archery range is available in the park just north of the Cottonwood shower building for RV campers to turn on their archery and shooting A-game.

Park Programs/Events

Lovewell State Park hosts various annual special events and programs for the enjoyment and participation of campers and visitors. Some of these events include Kids Fishing Clinic (in June), Fireworks Display (in July), Sand Castle Contest (in July), Fun Day (in August), Campground Christmas (in August) etc.
